Malta’s Young Sailers Set Sail for Optimist World Championship

Malta will be represented by a team of five exceptional young sailors at the prestigious Optimist World Championship, taking place from 5 -15th December in Mar del Plata, Argentina. This global event will bring together over 250 of the world’s top youth sailors, and Malta’s delegation is ready to make waves.

The Maltese team, consisting of Isaac Azzopardi, Liam Andrew Cutajar, and Aleksandra Nagrudnaia from Birżebbuġa Sailing Club, alongside Sebastian Miceli Demajo and Timothy De Cesare from the Malta Young Sailors Club, has been training rigorously under the guidance of Optimist coach Ivan Vasilev. Their preparation includes intensive training sessions and team-building activities to strengthen their skills and camaraderie.

As a proud supporter of youth in sports, GasanMamo is committed to fostering the next generation of Maltese talent. Backing initiatives like this ensures young athletes are given the opportunity to pursue their passions and excel on the international stage.

The Malta Sailing Federation emphasized the significance of this milestone, stating: “This competition highlights Malta’s growing presence on the global sailing stage and serves as an inspiration to aspiring sailors across our island. Departing for Argentina on Friday 5th December, the Maltese team is set to showcase their dedication and determination at this exciting championship.
